Japow – the snow that needs no introduction

    January

Japan – who hasn’t heard of japow? We head to the Land of the Rising Sun for an amazing ski touring adventure on the island of Hokkaido.

Hokkaido is the northernmost and coldest island in Japan, the second largest in the country. It is known for the large amounts of snow that fall annually and the excellent conditions for practicing winter sports.

Apart from snow and skiing, we will try to discover as much as possible the local culture, religion, cuisine and the obligatory onsen (hot springs, the result of active volcanic activity).

The program is suitable for people with a good level of riding and the ability to climb 1000 meters per day.

We have chosen two main areas for our program – Daisetsuzan and Sapporo, which will give us the opportunity to visit some of Japan’s best toring places and ski resorts.

Note: We keep the rights to change the program in case of force majeure circumstances.

    * The price is per person with a minimum of 5 registered.

    * Reservation should be no later than 30 days before the program. Reservation is considered confirmed if payment is processed within 3 days after booking.

    Guide's Perspective

Japan's ski and mountain culture is deeper and bigger than you might expect. We'll take a plunge into one of the deepest winters and snows on earth, enjoy amazing food and tranquil onsen experiences. It's not a physically strenuous trip, but it is one that will touch you deeply and potentially change your skiing perspective — forever.

    Day 1

    Flight to Sapporo

    Day 2

Arrive in the morning and transfer about 3 hours to Daisetsuzan.

    Day 3-5

During these 3 days we will visit the Daisetsuzan area to get to know the peculiarities of Japanese powder. We will climb an active volcano, one of the surrounding peaks or we will drive in and around the resort of Furano.

    Day 6-10

We head to our second location - Sapporo (transfer about 4 hours), where we will be for the next 5 days. The area offers even more options for ski touring and riding. And that's exactly what we're going to do – we're going to enjoy it to the max. Each day we will be in and around the area of different resorts - Niseko, Kiroro, Rusutsu, Kokusai, Teine (best resort in Japan for 2022). The raw terrain covered with meters of snow is a dream for every free-rider. Of course, we will mainly rely on our own strength to ride in the Japanese powder. We will climb a stratovolcano to descend into its very crater. We will ride through birch groves, from which (we assume) you have only seen pictures of skiers and boarders buried in snow. This time you will be in the camera lens.

    Day 11

    Early departure from the airport.

    What Our Guests Say

    ★★★★★
    It was well organized trip

It was well organized trip in Japan. Accomodation and local transport was on point. We had different tours every day, carefully considered based on the current forecast and circumstances. Both Ivo and Mitko are great, we made good memories and good friends!

Thank the snow gods, then thank Stan

The snow gods were kind this weekend — that's on them, not me. But Stan and the Basecamp Tours crew being absolutely dialled in? That's every single time, no asterisk. Smart route choices, safety that never feels paranoid, and feedback that actually makes you better. The snow is a gamble. Basecamp Tours is not.
