Guide's Perspective

Mighty icebergs, flowing glaciers, whales, musk oxen and traces of the ancient Inuit along this rugged coastline – West Greenland by boat and on skis is an Arctic adventure without parallel. The feeling of being at the edge of the world is completely real, and it always makes me want to return with eager anticipation.

Day 1: Arrival and embarkation in Maniitsoq

Arrive in Maniitsoq by helicopter or boat, meet your experienced mountain and sailing crew and settle on board. Safety protocols and weather forecast review before the evening briefing.

Day 2: Kangaamiut fjord warm-up

Set sail for the Kangaamiut region. A first warm-up tour on gentle coastal slopes with panoramic views of the icy waters and distant peaks.

Day 3: Deep alpine descents

Anchor in a sheltered cove and head for the higher alpine terrain. Skin up dramatic ridges for a long, thrilling descent down to the shoreline.

Day 4: Glaciers and remote peaks

Sail deeper into the inner fjords to reach glacier-fed valleys. Technical routes and wide-open bowls with exceptional snow in the Kangerlussuatsiaq area.

Day 5: Island hopping and couloirs

Navigate around the local islands for a change of scenery. Narrow couloirs and steeper faces for those looking for a challenge in the Kangaamiut area.

Day 6: Whales and coastal ridges

A morning of scenic skiing on coastal ridges, then an afternoon sail with an eye out for humpback whales and seals.

Day 7: Final peak and celebration

Climb the highest or most scenic peak of the trip for the final descent. Back in Maniitsoq, celebrate with a special dinner on board.

Day 8: Departure

Disembark, say goodbye to the crew and transfer for your journey home.

What Our Guests Say

★★★★★
Thank the snow gods, then thank Stan

The snow gods were kind this weekend — that's on them, not me. But Stan and the Basecamp Tours crew being absolutely dialled in? That's every single time, no asterisk. Smart route choices, safety that never feels paranoid, and feedback that actually makes you better. The snow is a gamble. Basecamp Tours is not.
