Trout & Grayling Fly Fishing in Bosnia

SEP – OCT 2020

Fly fishing in one of the most attractive destinations in the world.

For more than a decade, Bosnia has become one of the most attractive fly fishing destinations not only in the Balkans and Europe but also globally. Also called „the fly fishing Mecca of the Balkans”, this part of the country where we will be touring includes over 7 rivers full of wild populations of grayling and brown trout. The place is an iconic example of how sustainable alternative tourism in the form of fly fishing can thrive.

A real fishing paradise where accommodation is literally on the river and the fish is jumping under the terrace. The extremely beautiful, clean and clear rivers and the surrounding nature guarantee pleasant emotions. Local cuisine is not to be missed at all. The perfect trip for both beginners and advanced fishermen alike. We will be accommodated in one of the best fishing lodges in Europa – Ribnik or Pliva LTG Fishing Lodge.

This program will be guided by Stanislav Mankov – a world famous fly fisherman and definitely the best in the region. He gives a great rank to each of his tours and there is no doubt you will take a lot from his knowledge.

Travel to Bosnia: Depending on your location and preferences you may fly to Zagreb, Belgrade or Banja Luka which are the most convenient airports for this program. In this case we may arrange your transfer from the airport to the lodge and back. Another option is to come to Sofia first and to travel with us by car on the same price. In this case, we may arrange additional accommodation in Sofia before and/or after the program, if needed. Just let us know in advance for your itinerary. Prices for 3* hotels in Sofia are about 35 Euro for a double room and 50 Euro for a single room.

Good to know:
The Ribnik river springs from under the Srnetica mountain near the village Gornji Ribnik. It starts from two strong springs whose volumes varies between 1.5 – 2.5 m3/s. Where the two springs join, the river has characteristics of a high mountain stream. Once the river makes its way to Ribnik village the character changes to a wide slower flowing river with water clarity that can only be found in ‘springfed’ or ‘chalk’ stream. The water quality makes the river extremely rich of aquatic insects such as shrimps, mayflies, sedges and many other invertebrates that are the basic source of food for the grayling and brown trout. This part of the river along it course provides easy access all the way to where it meets the river Sana.
The Pliva river is another spring fed stream that will be fished during our stay. It offers 8 km of exceptional fly fishing for grayling and brown trout. The rivers rich diversity of fly and plant life makes for fit and healthy fish with grayling to over 60 cm and brown trout over 10 lb being present. Pliva is probably the most beautiful River in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sana is a river in the north-western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a tributary of the Una, into which it flows near Novi Grad. It is the longest in between all nine rivers that flow through Sanski Most. It has amazing population of grayling. It is not unusual to catch more than 50 fish per day on Sana. There is also a population of wild brown trout. The perfect river for sight fishing, small dries, nymphs and tiny tippets. Superb river where you can put your lightest tackle to a test.
