Olympus – the Mountain of Zeus

26-28 August 2022

A short touch of the divine Mount Olympus, the delicious Greek food, their famous hospitality and the salty Aegean Sea.

Rising directly from the Aegean Sea, Olympus is the second highest mountain on the Balkan Peninsula, after Rila. Home to the ancient Greek gods and the kingdom of Zeus, it is full of mysticism and is an attractive destination for visitors from all over the world. Climbing its highest peak is a challenge for every mountaineer. The technical ridge connecting Skala peak with the highest point of the massif, summit of Mount Mitikas (2917 m above sea level), requires concentration and lack of fear of heights. Probably this is the main reason why the first ascent to the top was only in 1913 by the local hunter Christos Kakalos and the Swiss mountaineers Frederic Boasona and Daniel BoBovi. A national park since 1937, Olympus is remarkable for its rich flora, including several endemic species.

We offer you a short touch of Olympus, through which you can enjoy this majestic mountain. The route is chosen so that you can fully experience, albeit briefly, the local nature and at the same time enjoy the Greek hospitality and delicious food. Every trip to Greece would not be over if one does not dive into the sea at least once – well, we cannot miss this opportunity.

The seriousness of the route makes it suitable for people with good physical training and without fear of heights. If you are not sure if the program is right for you, we advise you to contact us in advance to help you with the assessment. We know that the pleasant experience in the mountains starts with the right route.

The journey takes about 5 hours, and the climb to the hut – about 3.30 hours (1000 meters accent). Overnight in dormitories. The hut offers a bathroom with cold water and deliciously prepared food.

Duration of the transition: 3.5 hours.

Day 2: Mitikas peak
After breakfast, in about 2.30 hours we reach Skala peak, where the technical ascent of Olympus – Mount Mitikas begins. We go back to Prionia and head to the beach, where we will spend the night. The pension offers basic accommodation in double / triple rooms with private bathroom and toilet. Choosing a place for dinner will not be easy in the presence of many local taverns.
