Canada – Skiing in the Heart of British Columbia

February

Ski adventure in one of the most emblematic ski touring destinations in the World. Jump into the deep snow with us and be part of the big game. Ready?

British Columbia (BC), Canada is one of the places that inspired us the most to create Basecamp Tours just because we realized we want other people to feel the extraordinary nature here. We have chosen the Rogers Pass area for our program – one of the most iconic ski touring destinations in North America, visited by skiers from all over the world. We will also visit other terrains in Selkirk, Monaches, Purcell mountain ranges. Based on the experience we gained in this area we may definitely say that skiing options here are practically infinite. These two weeks we have prepared for you will help you to realize that.
We were wondering how to describe this program. Standard programs have a clear plan for each day. But not this one. It is just a different one. We can’t even call it a Program. For us this is an Adventure with tones of snow, vast and varied terrains and big lines that will leave a deep mark on everyone who touches them. No matter what we write here it won’t be enough – that’s why we will give you the chance to live it.
Mountains in this region require serious attitude, experience and stamina. Even not so high in general, terrains here are definitely challenging – deep valleys, steep and long slopes defining high elevation gain of the tours, glaciers in highest parts. Geographical location of these mountains defines significant snow falls and its high quality as well. Tree line is around 2000 m. asl. which gives thousands of options in bad weather. It is true that every ski touring lover may find out everything he/she dreams about and even more.
The accent of this trip is Rogers pass area. This mountain pass is part of the great Trans-Canada highway in the section that crosses Selkirk Massif. It is a little bit above 1300 m. asl. equally distanced between Golden and Revelstoke (Revi) – in about 1-hour driving. All ski touring zones accessed from the Pass are within Glacier National Park which defines the lack of snow mobiles and helicopters. It is not unusual when the whole mountain is closed due to the amount of snow, no joke!
Local ski resorts are not to be missed out at all – the famous Kicking Horse and Revelstoke Mountain Resort. They have a huge free-ride zone accessible with 3-4 lifts only and some of the terrains are really sick! Both villages where we are going to stay – Golden and Revelstoke, offer good restaurants, pubs and shops. Revi is much cooler and famous here. Its inside Aqua park should not be missed too. We may have our dinners in some of the pubs or will prepare it by ourselves.
Being in BC, there is no way to not talk about heli ski because this is one of the top destination for this amazing experience. If you have ever dream about it, you can take it here – it is really worthy. If you wish to try we may arrange this for you.
This program is suitable for people with good stamina and solid skills in ski touring and freeriding. Elevation gain each of the touring days is between 800 and 1300 m. Basic avalanche safety knowledge is mandatory. Our daily tours will be determined based on the specific local conditions; different options will be discussed within the group. This makes the trip adventurous and different from anyone else.

Note: We reserve the right to make changes in the program depending on weather/snow conditions. Clients safety is our upmost priority.

* Minimum number of participants – 4, maximum – 8.

* Reservation should be no later than 50 days before the program. Reservation is considered confirmed if payment is processed within 3 days after booking.

Day 1
Flight to Calgary. Transfer to Golden (4-5 hours). Late accommodation.

Day 1-4
The first 4 nights we are going to stay in Golden. The idea is to get used to the local snow, terrains and specifities. We will try some of the valleys nearby or will jump to Rogers Pass or will just enjoy Kicking Horse Resort – it’s amazing!

Day 5-12
Our basecamp for the next 8 days is Revi. The number of ski (touring) options here are relevant to Golden and even more. We are going to ski different places/terrains every day. No matter how strong our legs are, most probably we would need to take a day off :)))))))

Day 13-14
Early transfer to Calgary and flight to Bulgaria. Back in Europe +1 day.

The program is suitable for advanced and experienced skiers with solid knowledge in ski touring and backcountry skiing. We recommend good knowledge in avalanche safety as well. The decision on where to ski each day will be made based on detailed analysis on the conditions in the area and will be discussed with the group members. All of this defines the adventurous character of the trip, which makes it different and interesting for us.
