A Different Touch to Rila Mountain

11 – 13 august 2023

Come with us and get into the not so visited part of the mountain – a really fascinating and challenging trekking into Central and Southwest Rila.

We invite you to share with us a really fascinating and challenging trekking into Central and Southwest Rila full with lakes, high alpine traverses, a lot of peaks and old pine forests. We do believe that after this trip you will fall in love with Rila and would like to come back here again.

Rila is the highest mountain in the Balkan peninsula. It is divided into 4 big regions – Northwest, Eastern, Central and Southwest. Most of the mountain lovers associate Rila mountains with Seven RIla lakes, Malyovitsa, Musala… Yes, we do know how beautiful they all are. May be you have also visited these places even more than once. But definitely Rila hides much more than these well-known spots. And we want to take you exactly there – the “other” side of the mountain, not so easily accessible and not so often visited.
Both mountain huts we are going to stay in offer basic facilities, delicious food and hot showers.
The difficulty level of this program (considering both duration and technical level) makes it suitable for people with a good stamina and without fear of heights. If you are not sure if this program fits to you, we recommend to call us in advance and we will help you to make a decision. We know that each good mountain experience starts with a proper route choice.

This program will be performed in minimum 5 participants.

Day 1 (Friday): Semkovo – Ribni ezera hut
Meeting the group in Semkovo mountain resort at about 10:00 a.m.. We grab our backpacks and are moving to the main mountain ridge reaching it for about 3.5 hours, passing through the hidden cirque of Vapski lakes. We will hike Redzhepitsa peak (often neglected by the tourist) with a spectacular view towards 3 different groups of lakes. From there we are crossing below the emblematic Kanarata peak in order to finally descend to Ribni (Fish) lakes hut beautifully situated just between both same named lakes.

Duration: 6-7 hours.

Highest point of the rout: 2678 m. asl.

Day 2 (Saturday): Ribni ezera hut – Makedonia hut
An amazingly picturesque and challenging day is in front of us. A classic but even though not so visited route due to its remoteness and technical level. Today we are moving solely on the mountain ridge, climbing several peaks with local names – one of them, Karaalanitsa (ex: Cherna polyana) is the highest point in Central Rila. And just to have even more of that, depending on weather conditions and group fitness we may climb Kanarata peak – the orographic center of Rila. Spectacular views will be around us all day long. Our final destination for today is the small but very charmed Makedonia hut situated at Mechi pass located between Golyam (Big) Mechi peak and Malak (Small) Mechi peak.

Highest point of the rout: 2716 m. asl.

Duration: 5 hours.

Day 3 (Sunday): Makedonia hut – Malak Mechi peak – Semkovo
Not a single day without a peak. After the breakfast we are going to warm up with climbing of Malak Mechi peak. From here, in good weather, we have a magnificent view towards Pirin – the second highest mountain in Bulgaria. Going back to Makedonia hit, then continuing down towards Semkovo. In our way back we will stop to enjoy delicious local food in a charmed restaurant. Being back in Sofia until 8 p.m.

Duration: 5 hours.

Highest point of the rout: 2474 m. asl.
